SPRINGFIELD, Mo. - Starter Richelson Pena was sharp Monday afternoon in Springfield but the Frisco RoughRiders, Double-A affiliate of the Texas Rangers, fell 6-1 to the Cardinals at Hammons Field.
BIG MOMENTS
Pena allowed just four hits and two earned runs (six total) in his 4 1/3 innings on the hill. The righty accrued seven strikeouts, two away from tying a career-high, but was saddled with the loss.
Springfield took the lead for good with a three-run second inning, scoring on home runs from Darren Seferina and Edmundo Sosa.
The Riders tallied their lone run in the top of the first on an RBI single from Hunter Cole.

NEWS AND NOTES
Pena's seven strikeouts were the second-most by a Riders starter this year (Wes Benjamin, 8, April 7 vs. Tulsa).
Cole extended his hitting streak to seven games with his RBI single in the first. He is batting .500 (11-for-22) during his current surge.
First pitch was delivered in 38-degree conditions, marking the third consecutive Riders game to start in temperatures of 42 degrees or cooler.
