Pensacola Pelicans News Release

The Pelicans and Senators matched up for yet another round of batting practice as the Pelicans held on to win 11-9 in a three hour and twenty minute game.

Jackson got on the board first by scoring one run in the first inning. Nick Sorenson led off the game with a single up the middle and would later score by a Selwyn Langaigne double. The score remained at 1-0 until the 4th inning.

Luis Espinosa, Travis Nowell and Erick Mejias loaded the bases to start the 4th inning with back to back to back singles. Sorenson then hit a two RBI single through the left side of the infield making the score 3-0. In the bottom of the 4th, Pensacola bounced back and took the lead 5-3. George Branch doubled to start off the inning and would later score by a Jose Salas single that also pushed Carlos Mendoza to third who previously walked. Mike Pierre then singled, scoring Mendoza and pushed Salas to second base. Trino Aguilar loaded the bases for Joe Espada when he was hit by a pitch. Esapada doubled down the left field line scoring Pierre and Salas, making the score 4-3. Pensacola was not done as Juan Rocha hit a ground out to third base that scored Aguilar. That made the score 5-3.

Jackson retook the lead the next inning with three runs on three hits. The inning was highlighted by Mejias's two run double down the right field line that scored Espinosa and Carlos Brackley. Pensacola matched those three runs with three runs of their own in the bottom half of the inning.

Mike Pierre had the big hit for the Pelicans, a two RBI single that scored Nestor Smith and Carlos Mendoza. Pierre would later score the third run off an Aguilar single making the score 8-6.

The Pelicans added one more in the 6th when Rocha scored on a Mendoza single to left field. Pensacola got their final two runs in the 8th inning thanks to a two run George Branch homerun, his 5th of the year. The Senators made things interesting and mounted a small three run comeback in the 9th inning but it would not be enough as Edwar Ramirez finished off Jackson to earn his second save of the year.

Bubba Dobson came in relief to pitch 3.1 inning of scoreless ball and struck out four to improve his record to (3-0) on the year.
