PCL Players of the Week - August 3

August 3, 2009 - Pacific Coast League (PCL1) News Release

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - The Pacific Coast League today announced Travis Snider of the Las Vegas 51s the Pacific Coast League Player of the Week and Sean O'Sullivan of the Salt Lake Bees the Pacific Coast League Pitcher of the Week for July 27-August 2.

Snider blasted PCL pitching last week. In seven games, the 21-year-old Washington native hit .538 (14-for-26) with eleven runs scored, seven doubles, three home runs and 15 RBI and helped the 51s go 7-and-0. Against the Portland Beavers on July 31, he went 4-for-6 with four doubles and five RBI. Snider was drafted in the first round (14th overall) in the 2006 MLB draft by the Toronto Blue Jays out of Jackson High School in Mill Creek, Washington. Snider is the fifth 51s hitter to win the weekly award in 2009 (Brett Harper, Jason Lane, Joe Inglett, and Kevin Howard).

O'Sullivan threw the first nine-inning no-hitter in Salt Lake Bees franchise history on Tuesday, July 28 against the Sacramento River Cats. The 21-year-old struck out seven hitters and was a leadoff walk in the 7th inning away from a perfect game in the 2-0 shutout of the River Cats. The last no Bees no-hitter was in 1999 when Frankie Rodriguez tossed seven hitless innings in the first game of a doubleheader. O'Sullivan was drafted in the third round of the 2005 MLB draft by the Angels. O'Sullivan is the second Bees pitcher (Brad Salmon, July 13-19) to win the PCL pitcher of the week award this season.
