Pawtucket Red Sox News Release
ALLENTOWN, PA -- The Lehigh Valley Iron Pigs scored 13 unanswered runs to rally from an early deficit and hand the Pawtucket Red Sox (4-1) their first loss, 14-5, before 6,912 at Coca-Cola Park.
The PawSox led as soon as the game's third pitch by Lehigh Valley starter B.J. Rosenberg. Jeremy Hazelbaker led off with his third home run, before Bryce Brentz launched a two-run homer, his first.
Following Cody Asche's solo shot off Pawtucket starter Rubby De La osa in the bottom of the 1st inning, Pawtucket's Jonathan Diaz and Justin Henry drove in runs with a single and sacrifice fly, respectively.
But the Iron Pigs reached De La Rosa with Cody Overbeck's home run leading off the 2nd and an RBI double by Asche in the 3rd, chasing the highly-regarded right-hander in his Red Sox organizational debut. De La Rosa, acquired in last August's blockbuster, nine-player trade with the Dodgers, finished with a no-decision.
Charged with five earned runs on four hits in 2.1 innings, De La Rosa totaled 49 pitches, including 33 strikes. He was relieved by Graham Godfrey (0-1) who absorbed the loss, allowing five runs (four earned) in his 1.2 innings.
Three more PawSox relievers combined to work the next four innings. Overall, Lehigh Valley collected 16 hits while scoring in all but one inning. Catcher Tommy Joseph led the Pigs with four RBI, including an eighth-inning homer. Every Lehigh Valley batter scored and seven Iron Pigs had multiple hits.
Meanwhile, Hazelbaker and shortstop Jonathan Diaz were the only PawSox with two hits. Justin Friend (1-0) earned the win as the first of three Lehigh Valley relievers, who combined to yield just two hits in
Right-hander Steven Wright is scheduled to start Tuesday at 7:05 p.m. against Tyler Cloyd in the second game of the three-day series.
