Rancho Cucamonga Quakes News Release
Rancho Cucamonga, CA - Red Patterson fired seven strong innings and Nick Buss enjoyed a three-hit game, as the Quakes downed the Bakersfield Blaze by a score of 5-2 on Sunday evening at The Epicenter.
Patterson (4-1) earned his third win in as many starts, allowing just one run on five hits over seven innings.
Buss, who fell a triple shy of the cycle, wasted little time in putting the Quakes on the scoreboard, as he homered to open the bottom of the first inning, the second time he's led off a game in this series with a home run. His 11th of the year not only put the Quakes up 1-0, but it established a new single-season mark for Buss, eclipsing his previous career high of ten, set in 2009 for Great Lakes.
The Quakes got two more in the third against Blaze starter Tim Crabbe, as B.J. LaRosa singled and moved to third on a Buss double. Rafael Ynoa followed with an RBI single, scoring LaRosa to make it 2-0. Austin Gallagher would then ground into a double-play, scoring Buss for a 3-0 advantage.
Patterson cruised through five, facing just one batter over the minimum. In the sixth, he gave up a pair of doubles, as Bakersfield got on the board. Jordan Wideman would double with one out, then score on a two-out double by Ryan LaMarre, making it a 3-1 game.
RBI hits from Wilberto Ortiz and Jaime Pedroza would up Rancho's lead to 5-1 in the bottom of the sixth, chasing Crabbe (4-4) from the game.
Steve Smith replaced Patterson in the eighth and worked a 1-2-3 inning. In the ninth, Smith got touched for a home run though, as Bakersfield's Brodie Greene connected for his 13th homer of the year, capping the scoring at 5-2.
The Quakes will look to build on their 3-1 home stand, as they host the Stockton Ports on Monday night in the opening game of a three-game series. Andres Santiago (6-4) will take on Stockton's Robert Gilliam (12-5) in the series-opener.
Monday is another Social Media Monday, as fans that follow the Quakes on Twitter or Facebook can receive great prizes or behind-the-scenes experiences at Monday's game. Game time is 7:05pm and gates open at 6:05pm. Tickets are available by calling (909) 481-5000 or online at rcquakes.com.
