
Pats can't catch Blue Crabs

Bridgewater, NJ - The Southern Maryland Blue Crabs defeated the Somerset Patriots 6-2 before 6,794 fans at Commerce Bank Ballpark on Friday night.
The Blue Crabs took a 4-0 lead in the top of the first inning. Shortstop George Sandel led off with a single and scored on an RBI triple by right fielder John Ramistella. After walks to center fielder Jeremy Owens and third baseman Patrick Osborn, first baseman Eric Crozier followed with a two-run single. Osborn would score on a sacrifice fly by second baseman Chad Ehrnsberger.
Southern Maryland added a run in the top of the second inning. Ramistella reached on an infield single and would later score on an error for a 5-0 lead.
The Blue Crabs extended the lead to 6-0 on a solo home run by Owens (4) in the top of the fourth inning.
Somerset got on the board with two runs in the bottom of the eighth inning. First baseman Josh Pressley singled and scored on a two-run home run by designated hitter Vito Chiaravalloti (7) to make the score 6-2.
Southern Maryland starter Ryan Bicondoa (4-3) picked up the win with seven scoreless innings pitched. Patriots starter Jim Magrane (0-4) suffered the loss, allowing six runs, five earned, on seven hits in five innings pitched.
The 2008 Somerset Patriots season presented by Ford will continue at home on Saturday night with a 7:05 pm game against the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs. The game is Commerce Bank Ballpark's 10th Anniversary with a Post Game Fireworks Show presented by Middlesex County Education Association.
