Patriots Defeat Pennsylvania for Second Straight Night

Bridgewater, NJ - The Somerset Patriots defeated the Pennsylvania Road Warriors 10-2 in front of 4,940 fans at Commerce Bank Ballpark on Thursday evening.
The Patriots jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first inning. Center fielder Michael Warner singled and moved to second on second baseman Emiliano Escandon's infield single. Warner advanced to third when left fielder Jason Fennell grounded into a double play and came around to score on designated hitter Will Pennyfeather's RBI single up the middle. First baseman Mike Glavine drew a walk and shortstop Andy DiOrio followed with a two-run single down the right field line.
Somerset added four runs to the lead in the bottom of the fifth inning. With one out, Warner doubled to left center field and advanced to third on a groundout by second baseman Duke Baxter. Warner scored on Fennell's RBI double to left field and Pennyfeather (13) and Glavine (19) followed with back-to-back home runs to give the Patriots a 7-0 lead.
Pennsylvania got on the scoreboard with a run in the top of the sixth inning. Designated hitter Pat Burns doubled to left field and scored on an error by the Patriots to make the score 7-1.
The Patriots scored again in the bottom of the eighth inning on consecutive doubles by Glavine and DiOrio to give Somerset an 8-1 lead. A two-run home run by catcher Sean Mulligan (8) gave the Patriots a 10-1 lead. DiOrio finished the game with a single, double, triple, and three RBI and Pennyfeather added his second home run in as many nights and three RBI in the game.
Pennsylvania added another run in the top of the ninth inning on an RBI double by center fielder Marcus Knight.
Patriots starter Ricardo Jordan (11-9) picked up the win, allowing an earned run on six hits, four walks, and six strikeouts in seven innings pitched. Pennsylvania starter Derek Hurley (5-10) suffered the loss, allowing seven earned runs on nine hits in five innings pitched.
The Somerset Patriots 2002 Season presented by Ford will continue at home on Friday, August 30th against the Pennsylvania Road Warriors at 7:05 pm.
