Chillicothe Paints News Release
The Chillicothe Paints Professional Baseball Club filled two more positions in the infield with the signing of first-baseman, Jud Richards and second-sacker, Jeremy (J. B.) Brotherton.
Richards, 6-1, 195, was obtained by the Paints during the draft of the Ohio Valley Redcoat players following the folding of the Ohio Valley team after last season.
The first baseman hit .253 with nine homeruns and 40 RBI for the Redcoats last year. He was drafted in the 33rd round by the San Francisco Giants in 2004 and played in the Arizona League where he hit .271 with five round-trippers and 37 RBI's.
Richards, age 25, is a resident of Carmel Valley, California.
"Richards has a couple of years of pro ball under his belt so he should provide us with solid experience at first base after the retirement of Josh Ury" noted Paints' manager, Glenn Wilson.
Brotherton, 5-9, 175, had an abbreviated stint with the Paints in 2005. He was signed during the mid-season, but suffered a broken hand after playing in just two games. He banged out a pair of doubles in six official appearances at the plate during his limited play last year.
Brotherton, age 23, is a native of Ringgold, Georgia and was a standout for the Kennesaw State University Owls (GA). During his senior year with the Owls, J. B. hit a lofty .368 with four home runs, 32 RBI while boasting a slugging percentage of .515 and on-base percentage of .449.
"We didn't get to see very much of J.B. last year, but I really liked the way he swung the bat," commented Wilson.
