Padres Blanked by Memphis

August 14, 2011 - Pacific Coast League (PCL1)
Tucson Padres News Release

The Tucson Padres were shut out for the third time this season on Sunday, falling to the Memphis Redbirds, 2-0. Redbirds starter Adam Ottavino pitched seven shutout innings and allowed just two hits, the only two hits the Padres would muster in the game. Victor Marte retired the Padres in order in the ninth for his 23rd save and lowered his ERA to just 1.67.

Padres starter Jeremy Hefner had a very strong start in the loss, nearly matching his counterpart Ottavino, pitching seven innings and allowing one run. Hefner walked just one hitter and allowed five hits. The lone run to score against Hefner was a result of a Pete Kozma RBI single in the fifth inning. The Redbirds' insurance run came on a two-out bloop single over shortstop Steve Tolleson by Nick Stavinoah while reliever Brad Brach was on the mound in the eighth.

The Padres had multiple opportunities to get on the scoreboard, including twice when they had two runners on base with none out. The game took just two hours and 13 minutes to play, eight minutes longer than the Padres quickest game of the season May 9 at Fresno.

Next Game: Monday, 5:05 pm - Tucson LHP Rob Musgrave (0-0, 7.32) vs. Memphis RHP Maikel Cleto (3-2, 4.01)

Next Home Game: Saturday, August 20 vs. Sacramento at 7:00 pm. Tucson Padres replica jersey given to first 1,000 fans ages 17 and older, presented by Bank of the West.
