Osprey Travel to Helena for a Monday Double-Header
MISSOULA, MONT - For the second day in a row, the Missoula Osprey (5-2) are set to play two, this time in Helena against the Brewers (5-3) Monday at Kindrick Legion Field. First pitch of game one is slated for 5:35 pm with game two following 30 minutes after the completion of game one. The Osprey come off a three-game sweep of Great Falls, winning two Sunday evening.
To get game one underway, the Osprey salvaged a run in the third inning on an error committed by the Voyagers to push ahead 1-0. Great Falls quickly responded with a run in the top of the fourth on an RBI double from Romy Gonzalez to even the game. Osprey starter Deyni Olivero went five innings, giving up the one run whit four strikeouts.
With both games of the double-header scheduled to go seven innings, it took until the bottom of the ninth for Missoula to take game one. With Eddie Hernandez on at second, Shannon drove a single back up the middle, recording his first professional walk-off to give the Osprey a 2-1 win.
The Osprey offense started quickly in game three when Shannon led off with a double in the second. Zack Jones followed him with a single, and Shannon scored on a Joe Robbins RBI double. Nick Dalesandro lined an RBI double down the right field line for his first career hit to add to the lead. Cesar Garcia grounded into a fielder's choice to extend the Osprey lead to 3-0 after two. Garcia then launched his first career home run in the fourth, pushing the lead to 4-0.
Great Falls posted runs on the board for the first time in game two in in the fifth. Adam McGinnis drilled a double to left-center field, and was followed by a Maiker Feliz two-run homer off Osprey starter Edgar Martinez (2-0) to pull the game within two at 4-2.
Missoula's offense countered with three runs in the bottom half of the inning, sparked by a Shannon walk to lead off. Robbins followed with an RBI single, but was thrown out trying to leg it into a double. Dalesandro and Leyton each followed with RBI singles to give the Osprey a 9-2 lead. The Voyagers added a run in the seventh to pull the final score to 9-3.
On the mound for the Osprey in game one this evening is Wilfry Cruz (1-0). The right-hander made his first Osprey start June 19 against Helena, and tossed five innings of one-run baseball while earning the win.
Missoula's game two starter is slated to be Erin Baldwin, making the first start of his professional career. The right-hander dealt one inning June 19 vs. Helena, holding the Brewers scoreless.
The Osprey are opposed by Victor Castaneda in game one. The right-hander started against the Osprey earlier this season, tossing five innings. The 19-year-old allowed three earned runs with five strikeouts. Helena will start Blake Lillis, a lefty from Windor, Kansas, in game two. His one appearance also came against the Osprey. The 20-year-old gave up two hits and no runs.
The Selway Armory Pregame Show begins at 5:15 p.m. on ESPN 102.9 and the MiLB First Pitch App. First pitch of game one is slated for 5:35 pm.
