Oshawa Generals News Release

Oshawa Ont. - The Oshawa Generals are excited to announce, following last night's first-ever OHL Draft Lottery, the organization will be selecting 2nd overall at the upcoming Priority Selection in June.

Following a shortened season in 2019-2020 and the cancellation of the 2020-2021 season, the Generals were poised for long playoff runs in both seasons and would likely have had a lower selection in a normal scenario. The results of the lottery have only increased our excitement to get back on the ice this September.

"Certainly thrilled to get the 2nd pick overall," said General Manager Roger Hunt. "Would have loved to have the first one but hey, we're going to make a great pick and have a great player in Oshawa."

The organization is no stranger to making a great pick in the 2nd overall slot, selecting now NHL veteran Michael Del Zotto second in 2006, Nathan Horton in 2001, and George Ferguson in 1969.

Our eventual draft choice will join the class of other first-round selections like 2020 selection Aidan castle, 2019 pick Brett Harrison and 2018 choice Ty Tullio.

Former first overall selection, and Toronto Maple Leafs captain, John Tavares is just as excited as we are.

"Obviously, the Gens are going to get a heck of a player," said Tavares. "I think for any kid going there, playing under Rocco Tullio is nothing but first class. They take a lot of pride in being one of the top organizations in the CHL and OHL."

"It's hard to find the right words, even today, to describe the amount of support that I get from people in that community. It's tremendous," he said. "No doubt the next wave of kids are also going to feel that.

The 2021 OHL Priority Selection takes place over two days, starting with rounds 1-3 at 7 p.m. on June 4th and rounds 4-15 at 9 a.m. on June 5th.
