In lieu of the Portland Winterhawks winning the 2019-20 Scotty Munro Memorial Trophy, the Hawks will spend the spring reviewing some of their most memorable playoff moments over the years. From historic goals to future NHL stars and championship-winning teams, re-live some of Portland's iconic nights in the postseason.
March 30, 2017: In the turning point of the series, Portland charged back from a third period deficit to beat the B.C. Division Champion Prince George Cougars 5-4 in Game 4 of the Wild Card round. The Hawks win forced a 2-2 series tie and they went on to win Games 5 and 6 to advance to the second round of the 2017 WHL Playoffs.
Down 2-0 in the first period, forwards Evan Weinger and Skyler McKenzie each scored within a two minute window to get the game tied at two heading to the first period intermission. Both Hawks are currently playing in the American Hockey League.
In the second period, captain Keegan Iverson netted a power play goal, his second of the playoffs, to take the Hawks first lead of the night. Prince George didn't back down. Scoring two unanswered goals on the road, the Cougars took a 4-3 lead with them to the locker room, sitting just 20 minutes away from a potential 3-games-to-1 series lead.
Que up Matt Revel. The veteran of over 300 WHL games scored back-to-back tallies to win the game for Portland. It was the first time Revel scored twice in the same game since he was acquired by Portland and he picked the best time to do so. The Hawks, a team that featured eight players who currently play professionally, won the series and advanced to face Kelowna in the second round.
