Omaha Storm Chasers News Release

TONIGHT: The Royals host Round Rock in game 3 of a 4-game series and 8-game home stand. Omaha leads the series 2-0. Air-time is 6:45 p.m. on Magic 1490 and at www.Oroyals.com.

LAST NIGHT: Aaron Guiel's second home run of the game - a three-run shot with two outs in the bottom of the 8th - lifted the Royals to a wild, 11-10 victory over the Express. Guiel greeted Will Cunnane (0-1) with his shot off the batters' eye in straight-away center field. Mike Coolbaugh's grand slam in the top of the 8th had welcomed Royals reliever Santiago Ramirez to the mound, putting Round Rock ahead 10-8. Ramirez (4-5) wound up getting credit for the win after retiring the Express in order in the 9th. Omaha had trailed 6-4 going into the home half of the 7th, but Calvin Pickering capped a four-run rally with a three-run bomb over the Tri-Vision sign in left-center field to make it 8-6 Royals.

ROYALS REPORT: Guiel became the first Omaha batter to drive in five runs in a game since August 24, 2004, when Raul Casanova had five RBI in a 9-8 loss at Memphis. Guiel, who's the sixth Royals player to hit two homers in a game this season, now has 20 homers on the year and 81 in his Omaha career. That moves Guiel one round-tripper past Joe Vitiello into third place on the club's career charts. Guiel's 67 RBI on the campaign give him 290 in his Omaha career, which is tied for fourth place with Luis de los Santos. *** Prior to last night, Guiel had been in a 7-for-33 (.212) funk at the plate, with just four RBI during that nine-game stretch. *** With the win last night, the Royals improved to 8-11 in games decided in their final at-bat, 16-18 in one-run decisions and 10-4 against Round Rock. *** Pickering is hitting .400 (16-40) with four home runs and 13 RBI in his last eleven contests. *** Adrian Brown has hit in eleven of his last 13 games, owning a .362 average (21-58) during that period. *** Denny Hocking is 9-for-20 (.450) in his last five tilts, scoring seven runs and driving in three. *** Justin Gemoll is hitting at a .424 (14-33) clip over his last nine games, with one homer and six RBI. *** Despite going 0-for-4 last night, Chad Santos is still hitting .333 (17-51) vs. Round Rock. The Hawaiian slugger has hit five homers and has 12 RBI vs. the Express. *** Matt Diaz, just sent down yesterday by KC, went 1-for-4 last night, knocking in a run with a sacrifice fly. He's hitting .419 (13-31) in eight meetings with the Express, belting four home runs and collecting 13 RBI.

STARTERS: RH Fernando Nieve (2-2, 3.38) vs. RH Shawn Camp (3-6, 4.01)

Camp makes his 7th start (21st appearance) for Omaha. The 29-year old righty's last start was last Friday at Iowa - he was not involved in the decision in a 3-2 loss (7.0 IP, 6 H, 1 R, 3 BB, 2 K). Over his last 12 games (6 starts), Camp is 2-3 with a 3.22 ERA. He's 1-3, 4.34 in his six starts. Camp has faced the Express once, getting the start and the win in a 12-5 victory on June 18 at Round Rock (5.0 IP, 4 H, 3 R-2 ER, 0 BB, 6 K, 1 HR). Camp began this season in KC's bullpen, going 0-2 with a 12.15 ERA in ten games. In 2004, Camp was one of three non-roster invitees to make KC's Opening Day roster and went 2-2 with a 3.92 ERA and 2 saves in 42 games. In 15 games with Omaha last season he was 1-1 with a 5.32 ERA and 1 save. KC signed Camp as a free agent on October 29, 2003. He was originally selected by the Padres in the 16th round of the 1997 draft out of George Mason University.

PROBABLES FOR REMAINDER OF SERIES:

Thur., 12:05: RH Roberto Giron (3-1, 2.25) vs. RH Ryan Jensen (0-2, 5.81)
