Omaha Mavericks Host Nebraska Cornhuskers April 5 at Werner Park

PAPILLION - The University of Nebraska-Omaha Mavericks are set to play their first of two contests at Werner Park, facing off against University of Nebraska-Lincoln Cornhuskers at 6:35 p.m. on Wednesday, April 5. This year marks the fourth consecutive year Omaha and Nebraska-Lincoln have squared off at Werner Park. The Cornhuskers topped the Mavericks in last year's matchup by a score of 11-6. Extra innings were required the previous year, with Nebraska-Lincoln scratching past Omaha 3-2 in ten frames.

The Mavericks are also coming off a three-game series sweep of Fort Wayne. Omaha is led offensively by infielder Grant Suponchick, who owns a .295 batting average (18-61), while infielder Parker Smejkal paces the club with 16 RBI in addition to tied for first in home runs. Mavericks sophomore infielder Jack Kalina returns to Werner Park again after participating in the 2015 Triple-A All-Star Home Run Derby powered by OPPD.

After getting off to a slow start, Nebraska has won seven of its last nine contests. UNL sophomore infielder Angel Altavilla leads his squad with a .358 batting average (24-67) through 21 matchups, adding 16 RBI. That total ranks second only to junior outfielder Scott Schreiber, who ranks first on the team in home runs (two) and RBI (19).

Tickets for the April 5 tilt at Werner Park are still available, and are $12 for adults and $9 for students 18 and under. Fixed seating will be in effect for that contest. Tickets for UNO students will be free and available on the day of the game.
