Oklahoma City Baseball Club News Release

Oklahoma City - The Colorado Springs Sky Sox scored four runs in the first inning and built a 12-run lead through three innings on the way to a 15-3 victory against the Oklahoma City Dodgers Friday night at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark.

The Sky Sox offense started fast, racking up 15 hits, including nine for extra bases, and 13 runs through three innings as the teams closed out a four-game series in Oklahoma City.

The 15 runs were the most allowed by the Dodgers since a 15-5 loss May 3, 2012 at Albuquerque and the most lopsided loss for Oklahoma City since a 14-2 defeat June 26, 2011 at Round Rock.

Colorado Springs outhit the Dodgers, 21-7, Friday as the Sky Sox racked up the most hits against an Oklahoma City team since Albuquerque totaled 21 hits April 23, 2013 in Albuquerque. The Sky Sox hit seven doubles in the game - all in the first three innings - marking the most doubles tallied by a PCL team in a game this season.

With Friday's win, the Sky Sox (16-8) won the four-game series between the teams, 3-1, in front of a sellout crowd of 9,534.

Lewis Brinson led off the game by lining a double into left field and scored when Eric Sogard followed with a double into left field to put the Sky Sox in front fast, 1-0.

Later with one out, Garrett Cooper doubled to bring home Sogard for a 2-0 Colorado Springs lead. With two outs, Yadiel Rivera doubled down the right field line - the fourth double of the inning - to put Colorado Springs ahead, 3-0. A Kyle Wren RBI single followed for a 4-0 Sky Sox advantage.

The Sky Sox added three runs in the second inning. Ryan Cordell hit a double to the wall in left field that scored two runs for a 6-0 Colorado Springs lead. Later with two outs, Kirk Nieuwenhuis added a RBI double for a 7-0 advantage.

The Dodgers got on the scoreboard in the second inning. Trayce Thompson, who went 3-for-4 in the game, tripled on a fly ball to center field, then scored on a RBI groundout by Willie Calhoun to cut Colorado Springs' lead to six runs.

Colorado Springs quickly responded and scored six more runs in the third inning. Sogard connected on a two-run double to left field for a 9-1 lead. Garrett Cooper's three-run homer out to center field extended the Sky Sox to an 12-1 lead. Nieuwenhuis followed with a solo homer for the Sky Sox for a 13-1 advantage. The back-to-back homers were the first allowed by the Dodgers this season.

Calhoun led off the bottom of the fifth inning for the Dodgers and hit his third home run of the season into the Sky Sox bullpen in right-center field, cutting the score to 13-2 as he drove in his second run of the night.

The Sky Sox added two more runs in the top of the eighth inning to extend to 15-2 lead on a two-run single by Andrew Susac.

The Dodgers (13-14) loaded the bases in the bottom of the ninth inning with one out. Darnell Sweeney then hit a sacrifice fly to bring home Oklahoma City's third run of the night.

In his first Triple-A start with Oklahoma City, pitcher Tim Shibuya (0-1) was charged with the loss, allowing 13 runs and 14 hits over 2.2 innings, no walks and striking out four Sky Sox batters.

Colorado Springs starting pitcher Brent Suter (2-1) was credited with the win, allowing two runs on four hits with one walk and five strikeouts.

The Dodgers next open a four-game road series against the Round Rock Express at 7:05 p.m. Saturday at Dell Diamond.
