Visalia Rawhide News Release
VISALIA â Brion Treadway pitched five shutout innings in his second start of the season to send Oaks left hander Justin Hampson to defeat for the first time this season as San Jose defeated Visalia, 4-1.
The Giants turned a triple play while Treadway was on the mound. With the bases loaded and nobody out in the fourth inning, Corey Slavik was at the plate. Byran Peck was at first, Jayson Nix was at second and Brian Barre was at third. Slavik hit a line drive to first baseman Julian Benavidez. The ball went off Benavidez's glove, just inches off the ground. He picked the ball up and ran a couple of steps to first for the first out. Meanwhile, Barre hesitated at third, but broke for home. Benavidez threw to catcher Justin Knoedler, who tagged out Barre at home plate. Then, Knoedler threw to the second baseman, Julio Cordido who was between Peck and first base. Nix had not moved from second. Cordido threw to shortstop Angel Chavez who applied the tag for the first out. The triple play ended one of the most significant threats the Oaks had in the game.
San Jose added three runs off Hampson in the seventh. With two out and the bases loaded, Zach Strong scored on a pass ball to increase the lead to 2-0.
Micha Holst then blooped a two-run double just over diving shortstop Doug Bernier into shallow centerfield and San Jose led 4-0. Clovis native Mike Bumatay made his California League debut by striking out Branden Florence to end the seventh inning. Bumatay went on to escape the eighth inning without giving up a run even though he allowed a single and two walks to load the bases with no outs. Two strikeouts followed by a ground out closed the eighth.
The Oaks only run of the game came in the seventh inning off reliever Julio Pavon. Dan Conway drove in Bryan Peck on a two-out single.
Visalia had two runners in scoring position with one out in the bottom of the ninth but could not produce any additional runs.
The Last for Now: Thursday will be the last game in the three game series against San Jose. The Giants will return to Recreation Park for a four game series beginning with a doubleheader on Memorial Day, May 26. RHP Elliot Brown (0-3, 6.85 ERA) is scheduled to pitch for San Jose against Oaks RHP Gerrit Simpson (0-2, 6.00 ERA). First pitch is scheduled for 6:35 p.m. The Radisson Pre Game Show will begin at 6:22 p.m. on AM 1270 KJUG.
