Midland RockHounds News Release

The RockHounds' 2013 schedule includes five games scheduled for morning starts during the week. Since baseball (no gripe here, just the facts!) cannot interrupt Rush and the outstanding radio line-up on News-Talk 550, there is no broadcast of those five games. On Wednesday, the RockHounds played the third of those five contests ... and the 'Hounds are now 3-0 in those games after an 8-4 win over Frisco.

While the first two "Rush" wins came on late-inning home runs from Darwin Perez, Josh Whitaker, and Jake Goeebbert, the RockHounds jumped on Frisco starter Kevin Pucetas for eight runs (all earned) in just three-and-a-third innings Wednesday, building an 8-0 lead.

Six of the eight runs came in the fourth inning, beginning when Whitaker (who had the tie-breaking and game-winning home run Tuesday) led off by dropping a bunt single down the third base line. Beau Taylor, D'Arby Myers, and Anthony Aliotti each drove in a pair of runs (Taylor and Aliotti with singles and Myers with a double) in the decisive inning, as the RockHounds sent a dozen batters to the plate.

Sean Murphy went 6.0 shutout innings, allowing just two hits (see below), with two walks, a hit batsman and five whiffs. Murphy earned his first Double-A win and lowered his ERA to 2.17 in the process.

Reliever Carlos Fisher struggled, allowing three runs in the seventh on just one hit while walking four of the seven batters he faced.

South Division

Division-leading Corpus Christi hosts San Antonio Wednesday night. Entering that game, the Hooks lead San Antonio by two games ... Frisco by two-and-a-half ... and the RockHounds by three-and-a-half.

Kibbles & Bits

- Chad Oberacker extended his hit streak to six games, going 3-for-5 with a double and a run scored. In the six-gamer, "OB" is batting .400 (10-for-25) with three doubles, a home run, two RBI and five runs scored.

- "Batting ninth ... Babe Ruth." Frisco's Teodoro Martinez had four of his team's six hits. His perfect day at the plate included the only two hits allowed by Murphy (singles) and a pair of home runs against the RockHounds bullpen. Martinez hit his second and third homers of the season, the first of them a three-run shot to left after Fisher had walked two batters in the seventh.

- The RockHounds are now 3-4 overall on their eight-game road trip, dropping 3-of-4 at San Antonio, but taking 2-of-the-first-3 at Frisco. The 'Hounds are now 5-2 against the RoughRiders for the season, including a 3-1 record against the RoughRiders at Citibank Ballpark.

- The RockHounds and RoughRiders conclude the four-game series Thursday night at 7:05 (RockHounds Radio returns Thursday evening at 7).
