NYRBII Travel to Face Toronto FC II in Second Matchup of the Season
September 1, 2023 - MLS NEXT Pro (MLS NEXT Pro)
New York Red Bulls II News Release
TORONTO, ON - New York Red Bulls II (13-7-5, 47 pts.) are set for a rematch against Toronto FC II (6-11-7, 28 pts.) at York Lions Stadium. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. ET and coverage is available on MLS Season Pass on Apple TV.
New York will be looking for some revenge in today's contest, with Toronto coming out on top in the first match between these two sides less than a month ago on August 9th. Red Bulls II had a 1-0 lead for a majority of the match at MSU Soccer Park when the visitors struck twice in the final ten minutes to take all three points.
New York is in the midst of an impressive three game stretch, having scored fourteen goals with six different goal scorers over that span. Ibrahim Kasule leads the way with five goals in the three matches, with Frank Ssebufu, Wiki Carmona, Mohammed Sofo, Matt Nocita, and Jorge Cabezas Hurtado also contributing. This recent goal scoring trend has seen the club vault up in many of the attacking stat categories for MLS NEXT Pro, as New York is now 6th in goals scored with 48, and 1st in shots on target with 159.
Toronto's best performance as of late was the match in August against New York, as that was team's only win in their last four matches. The club has earned two points in that span after competitive draws against New England Revolution II and Crown Legacy FC.
Ibrahim Kasule has been one of the main stories for this New York Red Bulls II squad, as the midfielder is putting together one of the best seasons in club history. Kasule has tallied 15 goals so far this year, which puts him into a tie with Jared Stroud and Brandon Allen for the most in a single season for New York. The Ugandan has also recorded a brace in back-to-back matches, making him only the second Red Bulls II player to ever accomplish that feat.
New York Red Bulls II are sitting at 3rd in the Eastern Conference with 47 points after clinching a spot in the 2023 MLS NEXT Pro Playoffs last week against Chicago. Toronto is on the other side of the playoff line in 10th with 28 points as they look to make their final push into the postseason with four matches remaining.
Coverage is available on MLS Season Pass with Apple TV.
