Northwest Arkansas Completes Sweep of Frisco

August 13, 2017 - Texas League (TL) - Northwest Arkansas Naturals News Release

Mauricio Ramos hits a three-run home run as the Naturals shutout the RoughRiders by a 3-0 final

SPRINGDALE, Ark - Mauricio Ramos broke open a scoreless game in the fifth with a three-run home run as the Northwest Arkansas Naturals (21-29/60-60) completed the three-game sweep of Frisco (20-30/51-69) on Sunday afternoon by shutting out the RoughRiders, 3-0. Northwest Arkansas finishes the homestand with a 5-1 record and are back at .500 for the season.

As the game entered the home half of the fifth, it was locked in a pitcher's duel between LHP Emilio Ogando of Northwest Arkansas and RHP Ariel Jurado of Frisco. The Naturals though would soon seize control as Donnie Dewees, Jr. collected a hit and Hunter Dozier worked a two-out walk to set the stage for Ramos. After finding himself in a 2-2 count, the Naturals' first baseman turned on Jurado's next pitch and lined a homer into the visitor's bullpen just beyond the left field wall for a 3-0 lead.

Ogando (W, 8-8) made his 19th start of the season for Northwest Arkansas and celebrated his 24th birthday in style by tossing 7.0 scoreless innings. The lefty was terrific all day as he limited the Riders to only five hits while striking out three. RHP Yunior Marte (S, 1) took over in the eighth and completed the shutout and earned the save by only allowing a hit in his 2.0 frames.

Meanwhile for the RoughRiders, Jurado (L, 8-11) was tagged with the loss on Sunday afternoon. The Frisco starter was solid as he gave up three runs on eight hits, walked two, and struck out four but ultimately gave up the game-winning big fly to Ramos.

The Naturals out-hit the RoughRiders by a 9-to-6 margin in the game with Anderson Miller leading the way with three hits while Dewees, Jr. collected another multi-hit game. Michael De Leon led the Frisco offense by going 3-for-3 out of the nine hole.

The sweep by Northwest Arkansas is the first sweep over Frisco since July 3 through July 5 during the 2016 season. The series win also gives the Naturals three in a row, which hasn't been done this year since a stretch from April 21 through May 9.
