
North Stars blank 'Lanche

BLAINE, Mn. - Drew Strandberg made 17 saves to notch his first North American Hockey League victory - and shutout - as the Traverse City North Stars scored a 3-0 victory over Alaska in the opener of the annual NAHL Showcase in suburban Minneapolis on Wednesday.
Traverse City (2-1-0) got a goal in each period, inclduing Andy Huff's second of the season in the final minute of the opening stanza with the North Stars on the power play. Huff assisted on Kelin's Ainsworth's first NAHL marker at 13:19 of the second period, and Curtis Heinz dropped in a shorthanded empty-netter in the final minute of play.
Phil Wendecker, who now has an assist in each of the team's three games, set up Huff along with Dan Radke, while captain Travis White assisted on the Heinz tally.
The North Stars face off against the USHL's Team USA squad on Thursday in the second round of the four-day event. Face-off is slated for 8:45 pm. ET.
