LEAGUE ANNOUNCES SECOND UNITED STATES NATIONAL TELEVISION PARTNER
NLL Press Release
Network Lead by Dallas Mavericks Owner Mark Cuban to Broadcast NLL Games During the Upcoming Season
(New York City)- The National Lacrosse League has announced its second national television partner in the United States. HDNet, the world's only all-high definition national television network, debuts on Thursdy, September 6th on DIRECTV, channel 199. HDNet will carry a variety of sports and entertainment programming.
In addition to the National Lacrosse League, the network will carry games and events from the National Hockey League, Major League Baseball, and the U.S. Olympic Committee. HDNet will carry 34 NLL games during the upcoming season. The schedule of NLL games to be carried on HDNet will be released at a later date. HDNet is the second United States network to enter into a national broadcast agreement with the NLL. Last month, the League announced a partnership with the CNN/Sports Illustrated Network. CNN/SI will carry 23 live NLL games during the upcoming 2001-2002 season, which starts in November.
"We are excited to be a part of HDNet," said Commissioner Jim Jennings. "The new high definition channel has already carved out a great lineup of programming. We are pleased to join the National Hockey League, Major League Baseball and the U.S. Olympic Committee in providing programming for HDNet. We believe the NLL will be a great fit for the new network's audience."
Founded by Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban and Philip Garvin, HDNet will carry a 16 hour-per-day, seven day-per-week schedule of sports and entertainment programming, all broadcast in high definition. In addition to sports, HDNet will feature a variety of live and taped special events, concerts, documentaries, music videos and movies. HDNet will be available to all DIRECTV customers at no additional monthly programming cost. DIRECTV is the nation's leading digital satellite television service provider with more than ten million customers.
"I believe our viewers will really take to the National Lacrosse League," said Cuban. "The action is fast-paced, and it will provide a unique experience in high definition television. We welcome the NLL to our new family of sports and entertainment programming on HDNet."
The League expects to announce the details of its national television package for Canada in the coming days.
