New York Red Bulls CONCACAF Champions League Round of 16 Matchup Set
December 19, 2018 - Major League Soccer (MLS) - New York Red Bulls News Release
HARRISON, N.J. - The New York Red Bulls will head to the Dominican Republic to open the season against Club Atletico Pantoja on Wednesday, February 20, Concacaf announced today. The Red Bulls - Pantoja Round of 16 series in the Scotiabank Concacaf Champions League will return to Red Bull Arena for Leg 2 on Wednesday, February 27.
Both matches will kick off at 8 p.m. ET. Tickets for the match at Red Bull Arena will go on-sale in January. New York Red Bulls 2019 Red Members will have the match included in their membership.
New York returns to the SCCL for the third-consecutive season after reaching the tournament's semifinals in 2018. The Red Bulls defeated CD Olimpia (Honduras) and Club Tijuana (Mexico) before falling to eventual champions Chivas Guadalajara (Mexico). The Red Bulls reached the quarterfinals in 2017, falling to fellow MLS side Vancouver Whitecaps FC.
Overall, the Red Bulls have qualified for the Champions League six times and own a 6-4-8 record. Bradley Wright-Phillips led the Red Bulls with three goals in six matches during last year's SCCL campaign.
The complete bracket is available here. Fans will be able to follow all the action through the Confederation's partner networks, including Univision Deportes (United States), Yahoo Sports (United States), Fox Sports Latin America (Mexico & Central America), Flow Sports (Caribbean) and other local partners. For other territories, the event will be available on Concacaf GO (subject to territory restrictions).
The 2019 edition of the Scotiabank Concacaf Champions League will be the second to feature the recently developed, action-packed knockout style competition. The home-and-away format will demand the highest level of performance from the participating clubs from the first kickoff, resulting in a quickly evolving competition with round of 16 matches in February, quarterfinal matches in March, followed by the semifinals and finals in April and May.
