New York Liberty News Release

NEW YORK - As part of the team's 25th Anniversary season, the New York Liberty will induct Crystal Robinson into its Ring of Honor during halftime of the Sunday, August 22 game versus the Los Angeles Sparks. The game will tip-off at 2 p.m. ET on YES Network.

The New York Liberty Ring of Honor, which debuted in 2011 to celebrate the Liberty's 15th WNBA season, recognizes retired players who have made the most significant contributions to the Liberty's tradition of excellence and the growth of the WNBA. There are currently six members in the Liberty Ring of Honor: Becky Hammon, Kym Hampton, Vickie Johnson, Rebecca Lobo, Teresa Weatherspoon, and Sue Wicks.

"Crystal Robinson will join an elite class of Liberty alumnae as the seventh Ring of Honor inductee in our franchise history," said Liberty CEO Keia Clarke. "We are thrilled to recognize her contributions to not only the Liberty organization but also the women's game as a player, coach and mentor. C-Rob is deserving of this tremendous honor, and we look forward to welcoming her back home to New York."

"I can't think of a better honor than being inducted into the Liberty Ring of Honor alongside the women I learned from and fought so hard with," said Robinson. "I can't thank the fans or the organization enough for rocking with a lil country kid from Oklahoma."

Selected sixth overall in the 1999 WNBA Draft, Robinson, a 5-foot-11 forward out of Southeastern Oklahoma State University, went on to spend seven seasons in New York. During her tenure with the Liberty, she played in 216 games, 176 of which were starts, where she averaged 10.7 points, 2.7 rebounds, and two assists and shot 38.3% from three-point range.

In her first WNBA season, Robinson's 76 made three-pointers led the WNBA, and her 43.7% shooting from deep ranked fourth in the league. On July 24, 1999, she broke the Liberty record for the most three-point field goals made in a single game when she drained seven triples against the Los Angeles Sparks. This mark has since been tied on five occasions - most recently by guard Sami Whitcomb on June 26, 2021. Earlier in that same season, Robinson reset the franchise's single-game mark for the most made three-pointers without a miss against the Phoenix Mercury. Her record of five made three-point field goals without a miss has since been matched on five occasions, but not surpassed.

Alongside Liberty Legends Teresa Weatherspoon, Sue Wicks, and Becky Hammon, Robinson helped lead the Liberty to four-straight playoff berths and three WNBA Finals appearances. After retiring from the WNBA in 2007, Robinson went on to serve as an assistant coach for the Washington Mystics, Seattle Storm and Dallas Wings. In 2009, she was named head women's basketball coach at Murray State College in her home state of Oklahoma. At the collegiate level, she served in assistant coaching roles at Utah State and TCU.

Robinson is also the author of "Finding Myself" a new book that shares her life journey and inspires others to learn from her experiences.
