PEARL, MS - The Mississippi Braves have announced their first Farm Bureau Player & Pitcher of the Week of the 2018 season. Mississippi Braves right-fielder Tyler Neslony and LHP Michael Mader will take home the honors for their respective positions for the week ending Sunday, April 15. The Texas duo have certainly made their presence known in the Southern League in 2018.
Neslony, the 24-year old right fielder is currently batting .361 (13-for-36) on the season and leads the Mississippi Braves in hits (13). In 10 games played, Neslony has collected three runs, three doubles, five RBI, three walks, and two stolen bases. The former Texas Tech Red Raider is also sporting a .400 On Base Percentage and a .444 Slugging Percentage thus far in 2018. A native of Corpus Christi, TX, Neslony was selected by the Atlanta Braves in the 9th round of the 2016 MLB June Amateur Draft.
Mader, the 24-year old southpaw who hails from Houston, TX currently has a win/loss record of 1-0 and a 3.68 ERA. Mader has appeared in four games with the Mississippi Braves in 2018, with all four of his appearances being relief appearances. The left-hander has logged 7.1 total innings over the course of his four appearances and has allowed seven hits, three runs, all earned, one homerun, has issued five walks and struck out five. Mader has also recorded one save this season, joining teammate Josh Graham as the only other pitcher on the Mississippi Braves roster to have earned both a win and a save this season. Mader was originally drafted by the Miami Marlins in the 3rd round of the 2014 MLB June Amateur Draft out of the talent rich, Chipola College in Marianna, FL.
The Mississippi Braves are the Double-A affiliate of the Atlanta Braves. Since the inaugural 2005 season, over 125 M-Braves have gone on to Major League Baseball.
