Charleston SC. Two of the Major League Soccer teams participating in next weeks Carolina Challenge Cup have undergone a re-branding ahead of the annual pre-season tournament. Red Bull Company Limited has finalized an agreement to purchase the MetroStars; with the purchase, the team will be re-branded as "Red Bull New York", including a new logo, uniforms and team colors to take effect immediately. Houston 1836 has also changed names and is now the Houston Dynamo.
Red Bull Company Limited the Austrian company that produces the world's leading energy drink finalized an agreement to purchase the MetroStars of Major League Soccer and partner with AEG on the construction of the team's soccer-specific stadium in Harrison, New Jersey.
After relocating from San Jose to Houston during the off-season Houston was initially called Houston 1836 but changed its name last week to the Houston Dynamo. The new name is representative of a hard working team, and inclusive to all fans said team President and General Manager Oliver Luck at a press conference announcing the switch last week. Both teams will make their competitive debuts with their new monikers on March 18 at Blackbaud Stadium during match-day 1 of the 2006 Carolina Challenge Cup.

The Charleston Battery will host the third annual Carolina Challenge Cup March 18 - 25 at Blackbaud Stadium, Daniel Island. The 2006 pre-season tournament will feature 2004 MLS Cup Champions DC United, Major League Soccer's Red-Bull New York, the Houston Dynamo and the USL First Division Charleston Battery.
DC United's 16-year old soccer sensation Freddy Adu is expected to make a return visit to the tournament. Tickets are on sale now priced at $15 - $25; discounts are available for series tickets (includes all 6 games) and for 2006 Charleston Battery season ticket holders.
