March 31, 2018 - United States Hockey League (USHL)
Muskegon Lumberjacks News Release

MUSKEGON, MI- The Muskegon Lumberjacks got a late goal from Vincent de Mey to draw within one, but the Omaha Lancers were able to hang on for the 3-2 win Saturday at LC Walker Arena.

Marc Del Gaizo opened the scoring in the first period, notching his 11th of the year. Del Gaizo leads the USHL in goals among defensemen.

Omaha would answer back with a goal of their own late in the first, tying it 1-1 after one.

The Lancers took the lead when Nick Perbix scored his 5th of the season 28 seconds into the second period. Omaha would take that lead into the third.

Mick Kohler would add to the Omaha advantage, and the Lancers would hang on in the final seconds to preserve a 3-2 win. de Mey's goal resulted from a 6-on-3 scenario, and Muskegon had 52.4 seconds of power-play time left after that goal. However, the Jacks were unable to find the equalizer despite getting goalie Keegan Karki to the bench for an extra attacker.

The loss for the Jacks means they may have to wait another game to clinch a Clark Cup Playoff bid. If Cedar Rapids loses tonight, Muskegon would clinch, but Cedar Rapids is winning 4-3 at publication.

The Lumberjacks embark on a four-game road trip that begins on Friday against Central Illinois. The game begins at 8:07 EST and can be heard on 92.5 Nash Icon and HockeyTV.com.

Muskegon goals: M. Del Gaizo (11), de Mey (20)

Muskegon assists: Matej Pekar (38), Alex Yakovenko (12), Colby Bukes (21)
