Mulhern's Blast Provides The Only Scoring As Revs Settle For Split With Crabs

April 25, 2013 - Atlantic League (AtL)
York Revolution News Release

Ryan Mulhern's second inning home run provided the game's lone runs and handed Brett Tomko a hard-luck defeat as the York Revolution dropped a 2-0 decision to the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs on Thursday evening at Regency Furniture Stadium in Waldorf, MD. The loss snapped the Revs' modest two-game winning streak, dropping their record to 4-4, having split each of their first two series of the season.

Mulhern's two-run homer barely stayed fair, sailing over the left field foul pole, and came one pitch after Tomko and catcher Salvador Paniagua contested that a foul tip had been caught cleanly, which would have ended Mulhern's at-bat with a strikeout. It proved to be the only scoring all night, as Tomko (0-1) allowed just one hit over his final five innings, and allowed only four hits total, going 7.0 innings for the second time in as many starts. The right-hander struck out seven against three walks in the tough-luck loss. He has been terrific in two starts, taking a no-decision after firing seven scoreless in his first outing.

Blue Crabs starter Ian Marshall (1-0) combined on the shutout, scattering five hits over 6.1 innings before handing it over to his bullpen, as four relievers kept the Revs off the board, including Jim Ed Warden who notched his second save with a scoreless ninth. York out-hit Southern Maryland 7-4 in the loss.

Notes: Mulhern's home run was just the second allowed by the Revs all season. The two runs allowed by Tomko match the most given up by any Revs pitcher in a game so far. Tomko retired eight consecutive hitters at one point, marking the seventh time in eight games that a starter has enjoyed a streak of at least that length. All four losses have been decided by two runs or fewer. Andres Perez and Johan Limonta both went 2-for-4 posting multi-hit games for the Revs offense. Limonta is now 7-for-16 on a four-game hitting streak. York travels to Bridgeport on Friday, as Chris Cody (1-0, 1.80) faces Hunter Jones (0-1, 54.00) in the series opener at 7:05 p.m., a rematch of a 13-1 Revolution win on Sunday. Revs fans can catch the action live on SportsRadio 1350, YorkRevolution.com, and the Shoutcast app (YorkRevs) beginning at 6:45 p.m. with Darrell Henry on the call.
