Toledo Mud Hens News Release
DURHAM, N.C. - The Toledo Mud Hens dropped Game 3 of the Governors' Cup Semifinals to the Durham Bulls by a score of 4-2.
The Bulls got to Toledo starter Spencer Turnbull in the first inning after Kean Wong doubled to start the frame. A few batters later, Nathaniel Lowe hit a two out single to fire the opening salvo.
Pete Kozma nearly tied the game up in the third inning, but the ball hit a few inches under the line, resulting in a double. Christin Stewart did knock one over the fence, scoring Kozma, and giving the Mud Hens the lead.
It was short lived, however, as Joe McCarthy responded with a two-run homer of his own in the bottom half of the third. An inning later, the Bulls would extend their lead when Jake Cronenworth scored on an error from Kozma.
Turnbull threw two outs into the sixth inning, striking out six and taking the loss. Kevin Comer came out of the Hen Pen to record the final out and strand a runner on first base. Zac Houston followed suit, shutting the Bulls bats down.
The Durham bullpen mirrored the work of the Toledo relievers, as they were able to shut down the Mud Hens for the final 12 outs of the game, with Hoby Milner recording a save for the second day in a row.
