Mud Hens Drop Game Two in Shutout Fashion

July 13, 2018 - International League (IL1)
Toledo Mud Hens News Release

Indianapolis - The Toledo Mud Hens dropped game two of this four game road series with the Indianapolis Indians by a score of 8-0.

Toledo starter Artie Lewicki gave the Mud Hens their lone high point of the game in the bottom of the first inning. He set down the first three Indians batters by strikeout. It took him only nine pitches, meaning he completed, a rare, immaculate inning. After the historic feat, Lewicki made it two more innings, surrendering two runs. He struck out four batters.

Outside of that one half of an inning, the Mud Hens struggled to put together many bright spots. Indianapolis starter Brandon Waddell spun a real gem to hold the Toledo attack down. He lasted seven innings, striking out nine.

Edwin Espinal and Dixon Machado were the only two batters to record a hit against the Indians pitching staff. The Mud Hens had a chance to score in the first inning. Machado was able to reach second on an error, then advance to third on a balk.

However, that was erased as Christin Stewart grounded into a fielders choice. Machado did not the out easy for the Indians defense. It took six players to complete the rundown between third and home.

Most of the scoring for the Indians came in the fourth inning. Warwick Saupold was not able to get out of his lone frame as he allowed five runs on five hits. The big blow was a three run homerun by Pablo Reyes.

Following the big inning, the Indians were only able to muster a single run against the Hen Pen. That run came when MLB rehabber Sean Rodriguez took Paul Voelker deep to centerfield in the seventh inning.

Espinal and Machado were the only Mud Hens to reach base during the game. When the dust settled, Waddell's gem was enough to earn him the win, while Lewicki took the loss.
