North Shore Navigators News Release

LYNN - Holyoke Blue Sox starting pitcher Ben Mount allowed just one run on five hits over seven sterling innings last night in a 5-1 victory over the North Shore Navigators at Fraser Field. Mount, a junior right-hander from the University of Southern California, also had eight strikeouts and did not walk a batter to move to 4-0 on the season.

The loss marks the third in a row for the Navigators, who fell to two games back of first place in the NECBL Eastern Division standings.

"We held them in check for the most part," said manager Jeff Waldron. "They didn't have any big innings offensively, but we were just unable to respond with the bats."

Holyoke did not put up any crooked numbers in the ballgame, scoring five separate times in five different innings.

In the second, the Blue Sox got on the board when Justin Ringo, who had reached on an error, scored on a sacrifice squeeze by Kris Richards. Holyoke's Trey Mancini scored on a wild pitch in the third before a fourth-inning RBI double by Matt Tenaglia made it 3-0.

All three runs were charged to starting pitcher Dan Slania (Notre Dame), who allowed two earned runs over five innings of work.

North Shore cut the deficit to two in the sixth on an RBI groundout by Conner Mach (Missouri) that scored Eric Jagielo (Notre Dame), although the Navs had ample opportunity to do more damage in the inning.

Jagielo, who went 2-for-4, led off with a single before a double by Dario Pizzano (Columbia) put two men in scoring position with nobody out. But Mount spun off the backside of the mound to catch Pizzano in a freeze before a rundown resulted in the out.

Holyoke added a run in both the eighth and ninth to account for the 5-1 final. Mount and reliever Christopher O'Hare combined to sit down each of the final nine North Shore hitters to close out the ballgame.

NAVS NOTES: The Navigators will be in Vermont tonight and in Keene tomorrow night before returning home on Saturday to take on the Laconia Muskrats at 6:15 p.m. There will be a postgame fireworks display at Fraser Field following the conclusion of the contest, presented by Anthony's Pier 4 Café & Hawthorne by the Sea Tavern.
