Inland Empire 66ers News Release

San Bernardino, CA -Mike Morin is making pitching under pressure look easy in 2013. The reliever pitched the final two innings of a 2-1 Inland Empire 66ers (10-10) victory over their rivals, the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes (9-11). Morin improved to 2-1 with the win, and has thrown 7 2/3 consecutive scoreless innings.

After four innings of futility for both offenses, the Quakes and 66ers both got on the board in the 5th inning. The Quakes on a Scott Schebler solo home run, and Inland Empire on a squeeze bunt by Zach Wright to score Ryan Jones. The quick strikes aside, it was the pitchers who dominated the day for both teams. Especially Mark Sappington who allowed just one run on four hits in six innings. The team is now 5-0 when Sappington is on the mound.

The winning run came home on a wild play in the 8th . After Joel Capote beat out an infield single and was advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt, Alex Yarbrough grounded a ball to Quakes short stop Darnell Sweeney. Not only did Sweeney not handle the grounder but he air mailed a throw home allowing Capote to score.

Morin was already in the game for an inning when the 66ers went in front, and had pitched two innings the night before, but Inland Empire left in the right-hander and he retired the Quakes with minimal stress in the 9th for the victory.

The Inland Empire 66ers will have a chance for a sweep of Rancho Cucamonga Thursday night at San Manuel Stadium. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05. It will be a Thirsty Thursday presented by Hangar 24, with $1 drink specials available for fans who want to see the 66ers try and move back above .500 on the season.
