Modesto Nuts News Release

Lancaster, CA. - The Modesto Nuts' bullpen could not hang on to a late lead in their 9-8 defeat at the wings of the JetHawks on Saturday night at The Hangar.

Gareth Morgan had the top day at the plate. The Toronto native drove in four runs with a two-run double and a go-ahead two-run homer in the seventh for the Nuts (1-2)

After Joe Rizzo added a RBI single in the eighth, the Nuts carried a three-run lead into the eighth inning against the JetHawks (2-1).

Jack Anderson (L, 0-1) took over and got the first out on a single pitch. He then walked Colton Welker and allowed back-to-back singles to bring in the first run of the four-run eighth. After striking out Manny Melendez, Alan Trejo brought in another run with a RBI single. Carlos Herrera drove in the tying run with a RBI infield single that knocked Anderson out of the game. Jeffeson Medina followed and gave up the go-ahead run when he uncorked a wild pitch.

Justin Lawrence (S, 1/1) allowed no sliver of hope with a perfect ninth inning.

Juan Pena (W, 1-0) worked the eighth and allowed a RBI single.

Erasmo Ramirez made a MLB rehab appearance and tossed three innings allowing just one run with three strikeouts.

Ben Gamel, also on MLB rehab, went 2-for-3 with a walk, a double and a stolen base.

The finale of the season-opening four-game set against the JetHawks is Sunday afternoon at The Hangar. First pitch is at 2:05 p.m. Coverage on ModestoNuts.com will start at 1:50 p.m. Listen live online on your phone, tablet or PC.
