Moncton Wildcats Sign Free Agent Defenceman Simon Mullen

Moncton Wildcats News Release

The Moncton Wildcats have added free agent Simon Mullen to the team's roster for the 2024-2025 season.

Mullen is 6'3" left-handed shot defenceman from Truro, Nova Scotia. He played last season with the Summerside Western Capitals of the Maritime Junior Hockey League (MHL) and also represented Canada at the World Junior A Challenge.

"Simon is a player we identified early as someone who could come in and immediately help our roster. He is a long defencemen, who defends hard and moves the puck very well for a player his size," said Taylor MacDougall, General Manager and Director of Hockey Operations for the Moncton Wildcats. "He was an integral part of Summerside's deep playoff run and excelled against strong competition at the World Junior A Challenge. He is coming from a great organization in Summerside, where he was well coached under Billy McGuigan and Pat McIver. Simon is someone we are very excited about adding to our defence core,"

"I'm excited about the opportunity to be part of something special in Moncton this year. When Gardiner and Taylor approached me about the opportunity and explained their vision moving forward, it was an opportunity I couldn't turn down. It was a difficult decision as I have a lot of respect for Summerside and Coach McGuigan and also really took my National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) eligibility into consideration, but I'm confident that I'm taking a step to further my hockey journey and feel good to be a part of another great organization," said Mullen.

"Simon is someone we are excited to be working with in Moncton. As an organization we believe his game has massive growth potential, and we look forward to helping him reach that potential through our defensive development plan in Moncton," added Paul Boutilier, Defensive Consultant for the Moncton Wildcats.
