Moncton Defeats Lewiston, 3-0

Lewiston MAINEiacs News Release


Lewiston, ME - The Lewiston MAINEiacs fell to the Moncton Wildcats 3-0 in front of 2527 on Friday night at the Androscoggin Bank Colisee.

The night started out with the kick off of the MAINEiacs Play Like the Pros program which gives youth hockey teams the opportunity to see what it is like to play in a MAINEiacs home game. Players from various youth hockey leagues in Central Maine took part in a special game before the start of tonights game.

Tonight marks the first night that the entire MAINEiacs squad has been together since training camp. MAINEiacs Captain Danick Paquette, goaltender Peter Delmas, and forward Max Gratchev all returned from their respective NHL clubs. Paquette only saw playing time for about 8 minutes. In the first period the gritty forward was called on a kneeing penalty and was handed a game misconduct, sending him to the locker room for the night.

Tonight also saw the first QMJHL goal of Moncton defenseman Brandon Gormley. Gormley was chosen by the Moncton Wildcats first overall in the 2008 QMJHL entry draft this summer. The touted prospect scored his goal in the second period on the power play with an assist by Pierre-Marc Lessard and Matt Eagles. That goal would be all the Wildcats would need. Pierre-Marc Lessard and Daniel Pettersson also lit the lamp for the Wildcats in the second and third periods respectivley.

The Lewiston MAINEiacs will be back on home ice on Sunday, September 28 for a match up with the Victoriaville Tigres. Game time is set for 4:00 PM.
