Moises Sierra Home Run and Four Run Ninth Inning Not Enough

Tacoma, WA - The Tacoma Rainiers offense erupted in the third inning sending ten batters to the plate and scored six runs on seven hits and Tacoma held off a late New Orleans rally to defeat the Cakes 11-8 at Cheney Stadium.

The Cakes jumped out to a 2-0 lead with a Moises Sierra two run home run in the second inning. Tacoma rallied in the third and the Rainiers offense pounded out 14 hits led by Boog Powell with two hits and three RBI. Everyone in the Tacoma line-up had a hit.

New Orleans allowed runs in five of the last six innings and trailed 11-4 when the Cakes offense rallied to score four runs in the ninth inning. Newcomers Junior Arrojo and KC Serna each got into the attack hitting RBI doubles.

Vance Worley took the loss for the Cakes dropping his fourth consecutive start. Andrew Moore earned the win in his first career Triple-A start.

The Rainiers (20-11) improved to 12-4 at home this season. The Cakes (11-21) have dropped nine of its last ten road games and dropped three of four in the series.

GAME NOTES: The Cakes promoted infielder Tyler Moore and catcher Tomas Telis to the Miami Marlins and added infielder KC Serna from Class AA Jacksonville. Miami also optioned pitcher Adam Conley, he will join New Orleans in a few days. The Cakes have made a dozen roster moves in the last five days. Brandon Barnes extended his hitting streak to eight games. The ninth inning RBI double for Junior Arrojo was his first hit in affiliated baseball, he played six seasons of independent baseball.

UPCOMING- The Cakes continue the eight game road trip in Reno on Thursday at 8:35 central time. New Orleans will start RHP Scott Copeland (2-3, 6.33) against LHP Anthony Banda (3-1, 3.82) for Reno. Radio: Fox Sports 1280 AM, and the iHeart Radio App.
