Modesto Edges Rawhide in 9th, 4-3

MODESTO - The Rawhide tacked on a run in the 8th and 9th innings to tie it up at 3-3, but it wasn't enough as Visalia fell short to Modesto on Tuesday night 4-3 at John Thurman Field in Modesto. The Rawhide had their chance to take the lead in the 8th inning, but were unable to capitalize on a bases loaded opportunity.
With the Rawhide trailing 3-1 in the bottom of the 8th inning, Gerson Montillasmoked a leadoffline drive double to right field to put Visalia in scoring position. Two batters later, YazyArbelosingled to center field to plate Montillawhich made it a 3-2 game.
Visalia continued to put the pressure on Modesto in the top of the 9th inning when Chris Ellison led off the inning with a walk. Sean Jamiesonlaid down a bunt to move Ellison into scoring position and an errant throw from the pitch Scott Oberg put runners at the corners with no outs. Evan Marzillithen reached on a successful squeeze bunt to plate Ellison and tie the game up at 3-3. Montilla moved both runners into scoring position with a sacrifice bunt and Raywilly Gomez was intentionally walked to load the bases for the Rawhide with only one out.
But the offense stalled, as Oberg got Kerry Jenkins to pop up to the catcher William Swanner in foul territory and Michael Perez to ground out to first base to end the inning and eliminate any chance of a comeback.
In the bottom of the 9th, Harrold Riggins led off the inning with a single to right field and two batters later, Nick Gallego followed it up with a single to put runners at first and second with one out. That set the stage for Tyler Massey who hit the game winning single to left field to score Rigginsand ensure the 4-3 victory for Modesto.
The Rawhide will go for the series win on Wednesday night at 7 pm, as they wrap up their seven-game road trip before returning home on Thursday, April 18th to face Lake Elsinore (SD).
