San Antonio Missions News Release

Yeison Asencio's walk-off fielder's choice in the bottom of the 11th gave San Antonio a thrilling, 2-1 win over Arkansas in Sunday evening's series finale before a Wolff Stadium crowd of 5,621.

In the final game of the homestand, pitching continued to dominate.

Arkansas scored its only run off San Antonio right-hander Michael Kelly on a throwing error by catcher A.J. Kennedy during a double steal attempt in the top of the second.

Kelly, who was making just his fourth start at the Double-A level, allowed just two hits and three walks, while fanning six over his six innings. The Boynton Beach, FL native has struck out six in each of his four Mission starts and on Sunday night, lowered his ERA to a stingy 1.54.

San Antonio did not plate its first run until the fifth when Gabriel Quintana's double off starter Blayne Weller scored Asencio from first to tie the game.

The game would remain tied at one for much longer thanks to terrific performances by both pitching staffs. Each unit struck out 13 with seven different hurlers recording multiple strikeouts.

San Antonio finally broke through in the 11th when they loaded the bases with just one out against right-hander Danny Reynolds (0-3). Asencio, who had ended the first game of the homestand with a double play, looked like he might repeat the mistake Sunday. Fortunately for the Missions' centerfielder, his ground ball to second led to just one out as shortstop Anthony Phillips' return throw to first failed to beat a hustling Asencio. Nick Torres came home with the winning run, ending a game of three hours and six minutes.

Adam Cimber (2-1) earned the win after tossing two shutout innings of one-hit ball.

Following an off day, San Antonio (16-33) opens up a six-game road trip Tuesday night with the first of three against the Northwest Arkansas Naturals (23-26). First pitch from Arvest Ballpark is scheduled for 7:05 PM. Kyle Lloyd (2-0, 3.68) will get the ball for the Missions in Tuesday night's opener, while the Naturals counter with fellow righty Ashton Goudeau (0-1, 2.25).
