Missions Down RoughRiders 5-1

April 22, 2013 - Texas League (TL1) - San Antonio Missions News Release

The San Antonio Missions got back on the winning track Monday night at Wolff Stadium with a 5-1 win over the Frisco RoughRiders.

The Missions did most of their damage in the first inning, taking advantage of early wildness by RoughRiders' starter Cody Buckel, who started his night by issuing free passes to both Reymond Fuentes and Rico Noel. Everett Williams, who had missed the last three games with a hamstring injury, followed with a single to left, bringing home Fuentes with the game's first run. After Noel and Williams completed a double steal, Buckel (0-3) walked Tommy Medica to load the bases. Third baseman Jake Blackwood capped the three-run rally when he drew the Missions' fourth walk of the inning.

San Antonio starter Jose De Paula allowed Frisco to get one back in the top of the second when he surrendered a leadoff homer to third baseman Alex Buchholz. It turned out to be the only mistake of the night for the young southpaw, who limited the 'Riders to just three hits in his six innings. De Paula (1-2) became the second Missions' starter this year to go six innings, joining Burch Smith, who went six in his Double-A debut on April 6.

Relievers Jeff Ibarra and Josh Geer (1st career save) made sure De Paula got his first Double-A win by combining on three innings of one-hit ball.

The Missions got their final runs of the night on a Williams RBI single in the fifth and a Medica solo homer in the eighth. It was Medica's Texas League-tying fifth dinger of the season.

San Antonio (8-9) and Frisco (10-7) resume their four-game series Tuesday night, with first pitch slated for 7:05 PM. It will be a marquee pitching matchup on $2 Tuesday, with the Missions throwing RH Burch Smith (1-1, 1.13 ERA) and the 'Riders countering with RH Neil Ramirez (1-0, 1.88).

Notes: Monday night's game was played in a brisk two hours and seven minutes, the quickest game for the Missions in 2013.
