Fort Myers Mighty Mussels News Release

JUPITER, Fla. - The Palm Beach Cardinals used a four-run fifth inning to down the Fort Myers Miracle, 6-1, on Thursday night at Roger Dan Chevrolet Stadium.

Trailing 1-0 in the fourth, Ryan Costello pulled his hands in and launched a fastball over the wall in right to even the score. Costello's blast turned out to be the only run the Miracle would score on the night.

Palm Beach broke the 1-1 tie in the fifth against an uncharacteristically wild Miracle pitching staff. With a run already in on a wild pitch, Dylan Carlson pushed the lead to 3-1 with a sacrifice fly. Later in the inning, with Colton Davis now on the mound, the Cardinals extended their lead to 4-1 on another wild pitch. A bases loaded walk made it 5-1. Miracle pitching walked five in the fateful fifth and unleashed two wild pitches.

Carlson added a solo home run in the seventh to cap off the scoring for Palm Beach. The switch-hitting outfielder hit a robust .347 in 13 games against Miracle pitching this season.

Bryan Sammons (1-2) suffered the loss after allowing five runs in 4.2 innings. The left-hander surrendered eight hits.

Michael Wacha, in his second rehab start with the Cardinals, blanked the Miracle across 3.2 innings of work. The former first round pick (2012 draft), allowed just one hit. Ian Oxnevad (6-6) evened his record by allowing just one run over the final 5.1 innings.

After winning nine consecutive series, Fort Myers has now dropped back-to-back series for the first time since early July.

The Miracle open a three-game series on Friday night in Port St. Lucie against the St. Lucie Mets, Class-A Advanced affiliate of the New York Mets.
