Mets Earn Series Win over Greeneville

July 13, 2018 - Appalachian League (ApL) - Kingsport Mets News Release

The Kingsport Mets earned a huge series victory, and kept pace in the Appalachian League West with a 5-1 victory over the Greeneville Reds on Friday night.

The newest K-Met, Willy Taveras took the bump and was as advertised, pitching an impressive five innings. The native of Villa Isabela, Dominican Republic was on fire in the GCL and had earned a promotion to Kingsport earlier in the week.

In his Kingsport debut he finished with just one run allowed over the five innings, striking out four while walking none.

The Mets' pen was equally as impressive, as the trio Allan Winans, Ivan Jean, and Eric Villanueva threw four shutout innings to preserve the win.

Villanueva earned his first professional save, coming into a jam in the 9th and retiring two Reds to end the threat.

Offensively, the Mets got huge days from leadoff man Yoel Romero, and right fielder Ranfy Adon. The duo combined to go 6-8 with two RBIs and three runs scored.

The Mets are back in action tomorrow night, as they play host to the Elizabethton Twins in game one of a three game series.

The two teams have been atop the Appalachian League West all season long, and will enter play tomorrow night being separated by just one game in the standings.

Tomorrow is Lee Landers Bobblehead Giveaway Night, presented by the Mets. The first 300 fans will receive a Lee Landers Bobblehead as the Mets honor long time Appalachian League President Lee Landers in his final year as President.

Don't miss a pitch as the Mets and Twins battle for supremacy at the top of the Appalachian League West.
