Seattle Reign FC News Release

Seattle - Seattle Reign FC forward Megan Rapinoe has been named to the shortlist for the 2018 Best FIFA Women's Player Award.

Rapinoe made her NWSL debut with Seattle Reign FC ten games into the 2013 season. She recently surpassed Kim Little as the club's all-time leading scorer, with 34 career NWSL goals. With seven goals this season, Rapinoe is tied for third-most in the league and leads the NWSL with 33 shots on target.

Rapinoe helped Reign FC win back-to-back NWSL Shields in 2014 and 2015, notably scoring the winning goal in a 2014 semifinal match against the Washington Spirit that advanced Seattle to the NWSL Championship. Rapinoe is one of six players in league history to win multiple Player of the Month awards, an honor she received in July 2017 and March 2018.

She has been a staple of the U.S. Women's National Team since 2009, with 130 caps and 34 goals on the international circuit, as well as gold medals from the 2012 Olympics and 2015 World Cup.

Rapinoe also recently won an ESPY Award for Best NWSL Player in 2018.

The shortlist for The Best FIFA Women's Player Award was chosen by a panel of women's soccer experts based on each player's achievements from August 7, 2017 to May 24, 2018.

Fans can vote for Rapinoe here. Fan voting will be equally weighted alongside votes from international journalists, head coaches of all national teams, and national team captains.

Nominees for this year's award include two additional NWSL players in Sam Kerr (Chicago Red Stars) and Marta (Orlando Pride). Other nominees are Lucy Bronze (Olympique Lyonnais), Pernille Harder (VfL Wolfsburg), Ada Hegerberg (Olympique Lyonnais), Amandine Henry (Olympique Lyonnais), Saki Kumagai (Olympique Lyonnais), Dzsenifer Marozsan (Olympique Lyonnais) and Wendie Renard (Olympique Lyonnais).

The three finalists for The Best FIFA Women's Player Award will be revealed in early September, and the winner will be announced at The Best FIFA Football Awards show in London on September 24, 2018.
