McLennan Joins Red and White

February 22, 2019 - Canadian Football League (CFL) - Calgary Stampeders News Release

The Calgary Stampeders have signed international defensive end Ivan McLennan.

The 25-year-old Hawthorne, Calif., native was a free agent after two seasons in the CFL - with the Montreal Alouettes in 2017 and with the BC Lions in 2018.

"Ivan is an athletic player who has shown a great deal of promise early in his CFL career," said Stampeders president and general manager John Hufnagel. "With his ability and experience, he will have an opportunity to earn an important role on our defence with a strong performance at training camp."

McLennan was in uniform for all 18 regular-season games for BC last season and accumulated 16 defensive tackles including four tackles for loss, nine special-teams tackles and two sacks. He also dressed for BC's crossover Eastern Semi-Final game against Hamilton and had one tackle and one forced fumble.

In 29 career CFL regular-season games, he has 33 defensive tackles including six tackles for loss, 12 special-teams tackles, three sacks and one fumble recovery.

McLennan attended training camp with the National Football League's Atlanta Falcons in 2016 after signing as an undrafted free agent.

A linebacker in college, he played 25 games over two seasons at Washington State. He recorded a total of 63 tackles for the Cougars including 14.5 tackles for loss and also had 10.5 sacks, one forced fumble, two pass breakups and a blocked extra point.

McLennan transferred to Washington State after two seasons at El Camino Junior College in Torrance, Calif. In two seasons with the Warriors, he had 156 tackles including 20 tackles for loss, 4.5 sacks, two interceptions including one that he returned for a touchdown, four fumble recoveries and one forced fumble.

"I'm ecstatic to be a Stampeder," said McLennan. "I'm excited to come in, learn the defence and to play. I'm going to bring energy and passion to the team - that's the kind of player I am - and I'm looking forward to showing everyone what I can do."
