McKinney Dazzles in 7-0 Triumph

MODESTO, CA. - A pair of home runs on back-to-back pitches set off the Modesto Nuts 7-0 rout of the San Jose Giants on Tuesday night at John Thurman Field.

With both starters throwing well early, Jarred Kelenic started the scoring for the Nuts (35-48; 5-8) when he blasted a solo home run to start the fourth. On the very next pitch by Giants' (36-46; 6-7) starter Jose Marte (L, 0-3), Keegan McGovern sent a ball into orbit over the right field wall to give the Nuts a two-run advantage. Marte worked five innings allowing two runs on six hits with four strikeouts and no walks.

Kelenic finished with three hits. Matt Sanders connected on a pair of two-run doubles. Joe Rizzo recorded a RBI single in the seventh to extend his hitting streak to 13 games.

Ian McKinney (W, 6-4) shined on the mound for the Nuts. The lefty struck out a career-high 13 batters while working a season-best seven innings. He struck out four batters in a row in the third and fourth innings. He surrendered just three hits and K'ed the last three batters he faced in the seventh.
