Fayetteville Woodpeckers News Release

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. - The Fayetteville Woodpeckers announced today that they have welcomed Matt Sabados to the team as the inaugural "Voice of the Woodpeckers" for 2019. Matt will be the primary play-by-play voice for all 140 Woodpeckers games during the regular season.

"Matt is a difference maker," said Woodpeckers President Mark Zarthar. "His composure and creativity translate well across all channels, whether it be radio, social media, or even in-game entertainment. Matt has a bright future in the industry and I am pleased that Fayetteville fans will experience a future major league broadcaster during our inaugural season."

Matt arrives in Fayetteville after spending the 2018 season in Allentown, PA, as the studio host and broadcast intern for the Lehigh Valley IronPigs, the Triple-A affiliate of the Philadelphia Phillies. While with the IronPigs, Matt hosted pre and postgame shows, and called games for one of the best teams in Minor League Baseball. The IronPigs set a franchise record in 2018, going 84-56 for the best record in Triple-A.

No stranger to the area, Matt spent the 2017-2018 academic year in Robeson County at the University of North Carolina Pembroke, serving as Assistant Director of Athletic Communications. In his position with the Braves, Matt not only handled the play-by-play duties for all sports, but also produced and edited all video elements for the department, including YouTube videos, videoboard content, and the regional 30-minute sports update show, The Black and Gold Report.

A native of St. Louis, Matt spent two year behind the scenes at KMOX 1120AM, the heralded flagship station of the St. Louis Cardinals and St. Louis Blues. With the Mighty MOX, Matt produced full programs, Blues games, and assisted in the production of Cardinals games.

Matt earned his bachelor's degree in Mass Communications with an emphasis in broadcasting at Lindenwood University in St. Charles, Missouri in 2017. While at Lindenwood, Matt quickly took control of the student-run radio station, KCLC 89.1FM, to establish his voice. He was on the call for over 150 games during his collegiate career including football, men's basketball, women's basketball, and baseball.

Fans can hear Matt call every pitch of the 2019 campaign online through TuneIn and MiLB.TV at FayettevilleWoodpeckers.com.
