Louisville City FC News Release
Louisville City FC, the new USL PRO team that will start play in March of 2015, announced today the signing of former MLS forward Matt Fondy. The 25-year-old from Foster City, California joins Louisville City after two seasons in Major League Soccer.
"Matt is an incredibly talented forward who will make an immediate impact leading our attack this season," head coach James O'Connor said. "He's had a taste of the MLS and is someone who is capable of playing at that level. I've admired his work ethic and passion for the game, and am extremely excited to have him with us for our inaugural season."
Fondy played in eight games for the Chicago Fire in 2014 including an appearance in an international friendly against English Premier League's Tottenham Hotspur.
Before his time in Chicago, Fondy played in eight games during the 2013 season with former MLS team Chivas USA. It was Fondy's first stint in Major League Soccer and in his debut game took to the pitch in front of 38,000 fans on the road in Seattle.
In the 2012 season Fondy played for USL PRO's Los Angeles Blues where he finished the year as the team's second leading scorer. His performance that year led to him being picked up by the San Jose Earthquakes on trial for the 2013 preseason.
Fondy went back to the Los Angeles Blues for part of the 2013 season where he was in top form, scoring 10 goals in 10 games. He made the "USL Pro team of the Week" five out of six possible weeks and helped push the Blues into the playoffs.
Fondy joins Conor Shanosky as the second player to have signed with Louisville City FC with Major League Soccer experience.
