Mainers fall at Vermont

Mountaineers pitcher Elliot Ashbeck got the ball for the second time this season against the Moose, the last time proved difficult for the Mainers as Ashbeck tossed 70 innings of shutout ball allowing just 3 hits and striking out 2. Tonight was much of the same, Ashbeck, completed 7 once again allowing one earned run, 6 hits and 3 strikeouts securing his second win of the season 4-1.

The Mainers fell behind early after allowing 2 runs in the bottom of the first and 1 in the bottom of the second. Trey Amburgey doubled to left field, Robbie Knightes scored along with Chandler Brock in the first. In the second the 'Neers added to their lead with Mike Krische scoring on a fielder's choice 5-3 putout of Brett Charbonneau his first RBI of the season.

After a no score third inning, the Mainers got on the board in the top of the fourth inning, Sam Dexter singled to center field, and Kendall Patrick doubled moving Dexter to third. Caden Bailey came up with runners on second and third and doubled in Dexter, holding at third was Patrick so the Mainers continued the threat with two runners in scoring position. Kevin Stypulkowski went down swinging for out number two and Matt Pagano flied out to left field stranding two. That was the only run for the Moose, which threatened loading the bases one more time in the 6th inning. Sam Balzano reached on an error, Sam Dexter grounded out to third and advancing to second was Balzano, Patrick drove a single to left field moving Balzano to third, Caden Bailey walked to load the bases, Kendall Patrick grounded into a fielder's choice as Vermont nabs Bailey heading to second then Stypulkowski grounds into an inning ending 4-6-3 double play.

Vermont was led by Robbie Knightes who has a two for four day with one RBI, along with Trey Amburgey who finished two for three with two RBI's and a walk and Brett Charbonneau who made his one and only hit count for an RBI. Elliot Ashbeck (2-0) gets the win, Sam Spencer (1) gets the save tossing 2 innings in relifer with 4 strikeouts. Mainers' Sam Dexter and Kendall Patrick both went two for four, Caden Bailey finished one for three with an RBI and Matt Pagano completed his day at the plate going two for four.

The Mainers received 6 innings from Christian Lavoie allowing 7 hits and all 4 earned runs while recording one strikeout, the bullpen was solid, Cody Dube threw 1 inning allowing just 1 hit and walking 1, Nick Poore made his first appearance from the mound for the Moose this season and struck out 3 'Neers in 1 inning not allowing a hit.

The Mainers fall to 4-3 on the season and Vermont holds a 2-0 edge in the season series against the Mainers while improving their record to 3-4 and snapping a three game losing streak 4-1.
