Lewiston MAINEiacs News Release
MONCTON, NB - The Lewiston MAINEiacs finalized five trades Friday. The deals come a day before the start of the 2009 QMJHL Entry Draft in Moncton.
The biggest trade of the day, features the MAINEiacs sending goaltender Peter Delmas, defenseman Patrick Cusack, and forwards Danick Paquette and Dominic Savoie to the Quebec Remparts for forward Sebastien Trudeau, defenseman Samuel Carrier, along with 2009 first and third-round draft picks. In addition, the two teams will swap their first-round European Draft picks in 2009.
Delmas, Cusack, and Paquette were all members of the 2006-2007 Presidents Cup championship team. Trudeau amassed 41 points (19g-22a) last season, while Carrier finished the year with nine points (4g-5a) in 56 games.
In another trade, Lewiston traded defenseman Garrett Clarke to the Halifax Mooseheads in exchange for forward Alexis Piette and a 2009 seventh round-draft pick. Clarke was the MAINEiacs first overall selection in 2008. In his rookie season, Clarke appeared in 46 games and registered nine points. Piette joins the MAINEiacs after a 35-point rookie campaign with the Mooseheads. He tallied 19 goals and 16 assists, and finished ninth overall in rookie scoring.
A third trade involves the MAINEiacs sending forward Travis Moore, third and fourth-round picks in 2009, and a sixth-round draft pick in 2010 to Acadie-Bathurst. In exchange, Lewiston receives 17-year old forward Stefan Fournier. Fournier was the Titan's first-round selection in last year's draft. If Moore plays for the Titan this season, the MAINEiacs would have the sixth-round pick (2010) of this deal returned.
The MAINEiacs acquired a fifth-round draft pick in 2010 from Cape Breton in exchange for forward Marc Bourgeois.
In a trade of just picks, the MAINEiacs send their first-round European Draft pick (7th overall) to Moncton. In return, Lewiston will receive Moncton's first-round European Draft selection, and 2009 third, fourth, and seventh-round draft picks.
The 2009 QMJHL Entry Draft will begin Saturday at 10 a.m. at the Moncton Coliseum.
