Cedar Rapids Kernels News Release
CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa â Daytime baseball.
Is there anything better than slipping away from the office for an hour or two, eating a hot dog or bratwurst and washing it down with your favorite beverage while watching a baseball game?
That option is available today when the Cedar Rapids Kernels host the Dayton Dragons at noon at Cedar Rapids' largest outdoor restaurant, New Veterans Memorial Stadium.
The Kernels will be looking to even their record against the Dragons in the finale of the four-game series against Dayton. Kevin Jepsen (5-1), who leads the Midwest League in wins, will pitch for the Kernels. Cedar Rapids beat Dayton, 5-1, Wednesday night but lost the first two games of the series.
Besides hot dogs and brats, the Kernels menu includes Black Angus burgers, pork sandwiches and chicken fingers. You can top it all off with a Krispy Kreme sundae for dessert. Krispy Kreme sundaes feature a Krispy Kreme doughnut, Well's Blue Bunny ice cream and either chocolate or strawberry topping. They are on sale today for $2.00.
Free shuttle bus service from downtown to the New Veterans Memorial Stadium will be provided by Five Seasons Transportation, Renaissance Group, KZIA, KDAT and the Kernels. Downtown bus stops include the First Avenue side of City Hall, U.S. Bank and the Great America Building.
The ticket office opens at 10 a.m. Gates open at 11 a.m.
