Clinton LumberKings News Release
Clinton, IA - The Clinton LumberKings, in their final home game of the 2018 season, fell to the Quad Cities River Bandits 6-1 on Friday night at Ashford University Field. The game saw a total of 30 strikeouts between the two teams; 14 by Clinton (28-39, 67-70) and 16 by the River Bandits (38-29, 78-59).
Steven Moyers started for Clinton and allowed the game's first runs in the top of the fourth. Alfredo Angarita singled with one out in the frame to open the inning and was then followed by a walk and single that loaded the bases. Michael Papierski drove home the first run of the night with an RBI ground out and David Hensley smashed a ball through the left side of the infield for a two-run single.
Moyers (4-2) was given the loss for a 4.1 inning outing in which he allowed four runs on eight hits while walking two and striking out three. He was forced from the game in the fifth following a Chandler Taylor solo home run to right that went for his ninth big fly of the year.
The LumberKings had nothing to show over six innings against River Bandits starter Chad Donato. Clinton mustered just two hits over the first six innings and never once had two runners on in the same inning against Donato (6-0).
Donato earned his sixth win of the year for his time out and issued no walks while striking out 11.
In the bottom of the seventh, the LumberKings avoided the shutout with an Ariel Sandoval RBI single to right that scored Keegan McGovern from second.
The River Bandits pulled away in the top of the eighth with a two-run single from Miguelangel Sierra that came with the bases loaded.
The LumberKings will now head south for the final three games of the year to meet the Burlington Bees starting on Saturday night at Community Field. Clinton will throw right-hander Ryne Inman (4-10, 4.61) while the Bees will counter with righty Oliver Ortega (4-5, 3.74). Game time is slated for 6:30 PM. Fans looking to listen to the game can hear Erik Oas on the call on 100.3 FM WCCI and online at lumberkings.com via the tunein radio ap at 6:15 PM with the pregame show.
