LumberKings become weather-ready Ambassador
CLINTON, IA (November 28+, 2017) - The Clinton LumberKings are excited to announce they have been named the newest Ambassador of the Weather-Ready Nation, a program run by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA).
The Weather-Ready Nation Ambassador initiative is an effort to formally recognize NOAA partners who are improving the nation's readiness against extreme weather, water, and climate events. As a Weather-Ready Nation Ambassador, the LumberKings are committing to work with NOAA and other Ambassadors to strengthen national resilience against extreme weather.
In July of 2017 Ashford University Field experienced rather severe flooding while the team was on the road in Lake County. The ballpark was inundated with seven inches of rain over 24 hours, causing the entire field to flood. Thanks to the work of the LumberKings grounds crew and field drainage system not a single game was missed due to the flooding.
The LumberKings join just a handful of teams in the Midwest League to have the Weather-Ready Nation distinction. The initiative of the NOAA brings added commitment to protect life and property at the historic Ashford University Field, which will celebrate its 81st season of baseball in 2018.
